What a year! Foy Ice Dance was founded in February 2024 and has already grown to something I only could have dreamed of! Let’s have a look at all we did together in just 11 months:
January 2024: I secured guest trainers to start our program up in February and made a plan for the spring lesson program without any guarantee I would broke even; just a lot of hope, faith and passion!
February 2024: we started the PASS class and Learn to Skate on Sunday mornings and welcomed guest coach Christian Nüchtern for several days in Alkmaar. We also welcomed Olivia Smart, Tim Dieck, Hanna Jakucs and Alessio Galli for a special workshop weekend! Jasperina & Klaas de Vries began ice dancing again with me as their coach.
March 2024: We celebrated Saint Patrick’s Day in style and I began working with top Dutch ice dance team Hanna Jakucs and Alessio Galli. Sherim van Geffen supported most of our PASSA classes in March and Maksym Nikitin also came to guest coach our skaters. Adult ice dance team Jasperina & Klaas De Vries competed for the first time in many years at the Unicorn Dance Trophy in Hoorn!
April 2024: Roxy Janssen (former international competitor and top junior figure skater for the Netherlands) decided to make the switch to ice dance and began working with me as her head coach to prepare looking for a partner by the end of the year. Jade Wöhler decided to compete in senior solo ice dance and began looking for music and on her choreography with me. We also hosted two solo ice dance workshops in Alkmaar!
May 2024: A successful session of solo ice dance classes was run and attended by multiple skaters on Thursday evenings on DFS club sessions. Adult ice dance team Jasperina & Klaas De Vries won their category over many other ice dance teams at the prestigious Oberstdorf adult competitor!
June 2024: A very special seminar featuring Hanna Jakucs and Alessio Galli was organized!
July 2024: we enjoyed a nice break from the ice and worked on preparing the launch of our website FoyIceDance.com 😎
August 2024: I got to support Deen Figure Skating at the annual Alkmaar summer camp and of course we welcomed Gabriella Papadakis to Alkmaar for the memorable weekend workshop that was “lifechanging” to many people!
September 2024: we started our fall learn to skate, learn to ice dance and PASS class program on Sunday mornings and welcomed former Dutch ice dance champion Jill Bakker as a guest coach to facilitate a breathwork seminar on and off the ice.
October 2024: Hanna and Alessio started their competition season at the first KNSB selection in Den Bosch and I began training the new senior ice dance team Isabel Dubbeld & Tyler ter Meulen. We also had a very fun Halloween party with the Learn to Skate kids!
November 2024: I got to support both Hanna and Alessio and my niece Sofia Gates (UK, partnered with Nik Vayo) at the NRW International Trophy in Dortmund, Germany. Hanna and Alessio also placed as the highest Dutch ice dance team at Pavel Roman Memorial in the Czech Republic and Blasphorus Cup in Istanbul, again making them statistically the front runners for the European Figure Skating Championships in January. The decision of whether they will go will be announced right before Christmas!
December 2024: We held our first ever “pietenschaatsen” for the Learn to Skate class and our skater Roxy passed her medical school exams! She is now preparing for a tryout with an experienced ice dance male abroad which will take place in January. We are also organizing a special Christmas Camp with guest coaches from France (Stanislas Etzol) and Germany (Freya Brandtmann).
We are so proud of all of our skaters and their accomplishments in 2024! Big plans are already laid out for 2025 and we look forward to sharing them with you all soon!
Seasons greetings,
Ashley Foy Tervoort
